I take a lot of interest in economy and have a few rambling thoughts around it. It seems that there is a lot of inneficieny in economy due to people debating and arguing and writing about economy, just as I am doing. Hard work and wise choices seem to be the only driver of economy.

Small story on ROI-
One organization went all out on boosting ROI on each group. They provided security personnels. Now for winter the procurement group had to buy woolens. They are quite expensive. They come up with strategy of buying multiple cotton clothes and bet that multiple layers of cotton would be as effective as woolen. There is 70% reduction in budget and there is high ROI. Turns out on snowy days cotton layers just failed. Now they had 70% higher sickness rate. Now, that cost medical group and not the procurement group. Now medical group lowered cost by offering tylenol and coffee to personnel with colds. So they achieved high ROI as well. Those who couldn't do well with coffee cure were turned over to HR group.
The conclusion is that accounting is at root of all things. I would be talking to few folks in finance group to see how they maintain ROI over extended period. My hunch is it isn't.

One interest that has spooked my interest a lot is high costs of many types of services. And I can relate to that because I practice Sahaja Yoga. The connection is intriguing but is solid. One aspect of Sahaja Yoga is cleansing different chakras and getting rid of conditionings of past. When motivated to cleanse the past and unnecessary attachments we discover amazing dirt clogging our thought process. Now if we don't eliminate it or aren't conscious about not letting new build up it just adds up untill it becomes hydra headed monster which needs to be continually fed. Same goes on in economy. Everything is necessary- boats are necessary, annual vacations are necssary, 100% regression testing is necessary, attending all meetings is necessary. Costs build up ever so silently and don't go without a whimper. Often they become part of us and they will not go untill we do something about it (that's ourselves).
